Boys’ Latin is now on a three-game wins streak after losing its opening game to Gonzaga. Most recently, the Lakers took on Georgia’s Lovett, winning a 17-14 thriller.
After Boys’ Latin scored the first goal of the game, Lovett netted five consecutive goals. By the end of the first quarter, the Lions led 5-2. The Lakers struck back in the second quarter, led by Pat Spencer and Anthony Wyler. By the half, last year’s No. 1 team came back to lead 8-7.
Lovett scored early in the third to tie the game. Minutes later, Latin scored to take back the lead, a lead that they maintained for the remainder of the game. Despite Lovett’s best efforts, especially those of Hughes Moffett, the Lions could not catch Boys’ Latin.
Moffett led all players with an impressive seven goals.
Boys’ Latin’s duo of Spencer and Wyler had a hat trick each. Spencer added on a pair of assists as well. Behind them, nine other Lakers got on the points sheet, eight of them as goal scorers.
It was a team effort to defeat Lovett, and Boys’ Latin certainly earned it.
The Lakers’ next game comes against Manhasset on March 21.
