Boys’ Latin advances to MIAA championship game

Boys’ Latin finds themselves on familiar ground, entering the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association “A” Conference final with an undefeated record and on top of the DigitalSports National Lacrosse Rankings.

Last year, the Lakers boasted a 19-0 record when they lost to Loyola-Blakefield after the Dons comeback put them ahead 10-9 in the championship game.  This year, Latin has a 17-0 record and will face St. Paul’s in the finals.

Latin goes into the finals with a surge of momentum, coming off a big 16-10 victory over 3rd seed McDonogh, who also ranks 6th nationally by DigitalSports.

All star senior attackman Shack Stanwick shined yet again at a crucial time for the Lakers, netting four goals and adding on an assist.  Junior Patrick Spencer added on two goals, while dishing out three assists.  Tally Bruno added on a hat trick of his own, giving Boys’ Latin more than enough fire power to break through McDonogh’s defense.

Boys’ Latin jumped out to a 4-0 advantage when four different Lakers scored early in the first quarter.  From that point on, Latin was off and running.  McDonogh, only ever able to cut the Lakers lead down to three, could not catch the streaking Lakers.   By the final whistle, Latin’s six-goal advantage was more than enough to defeat the talented Eagles squad.

Preparing for the championship game, the Lakers have their work cut out for them.  St. Paul’s earned the 2nd seed in the MIAA as well as the 10th rank nationally.

On May 6, Boys’ Latin hosted Paul’s in an 18-12 victory for the Lakers.  Looking to replicate that result, Boys’ Latin plans to take the MIAA crown this go around.  The two teams faceoff on Friday, May 16 in what will surely be an epic finale to an exciting season

If victorious, Boys’ Latin will be the first MIAA team to go completely undefeated through the regular season and playoffs since 2006.  The last team to do it, Boys’ Latin.

Which history will Boys’ Latin repeat?  Will it be last year’s defeat in the final? Or will the Lakers repeat their triumph from 2006?
